Abstract

The picture of the construction world emerging form the last Report issued by CRESME is particularly interesting for the architectural and urban contemporary debate. It is not difficult to foresee a brand new scenario, if not a proper metamorphosis, for architecture and for the city. We should stop looking at cities as if they were the main contemporary problem: they rather make the best solution to contemporary problems. We are also facing a similarly radical change from the competitive mode to the collaborative mode. This highly innovative process must not be passively lived, it should rather go through a literal reinvention of architecture and of the city. Shall we be capable of creating interdisciplinary networks of offices that, in spite of all the deregulation going on, will be able to guarantee quality and conjugate the digitalization of the design process with the materiality of the building site? Are we ready for this?
